As I write, snowflakes are gently falling from the skies of Rhode Island. They float and then swirl around the bare limbs of trees down the hillside below. It is a pretty sight. Back home in the Philippines we used to dream of a "White Christmas". Now am dreaming of "simbang gabi, hot arroz caldo, caroling in Lagao and partying with friends and family". May your memories of Christmas be a joyous one. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

We will be sending the information about the June 24-26 Orlando, Florida reunion in January. Please send us names of newly arrived Notre Dameans that you wish for us to invite. And if you have moved in the past year, please update your new address. Email it to primahower@hotmail.com. Ana Fe Dinopol and I will update our directory for the next reunion.

Special thanks to Angel and Vida Boloico, Lanne and Chris Gammon and Sol and Ramon Cuenco and everyone who came to their respective houses to reminisce about Notre Dame days and childhood in Gen. Santos City.

To Pare Elmar Divinagracia, I hope you are recuperating very well. Prima

Have yourself a little merry christmas my fellow notre dame alumni. One of the keys to a happy holiday season is forgiveness. In other words, forgive your enemies but don't forget their names (ha!ha!). Oh, have a prosperous new year too.

Greetings from NDDC High School Batch ’79, Inc.!

It’s that time of the year again when alumni of the NDDC system from all over gather together for the December Homecoming. As this year’s Silver Jubilarians, we play host to this grand celebration. In this regard, we cordially invite you to join us in this year’s version of Buklurang Notre Dame on December 18, 2004, Saturday at the NDDC Campus. We encourage you to invite your batch mates since we have a lot of surprises for everyone. Bring your family too – it’s a day of renewing friendships and strengthening bonds of community and camaraderie.

Attached is the official newsletter of Buklurang Notre Damean 2004 which outlines the activities and events of our homecoming. In a nutshell, your batch should aim to win any or all of the following special awards:

1. Most Number of Batch Mates in Attendance – The average attendance during the morning, afternoon and evening activities will be computed. The highest attendance will win P1,000.00.
2. Most Colorful Batch – Only those who will participate in the morning “Parada ng Dilaw at Berde” will be judged. The most creative use of the colors Yellow Gold and Green will win P500.00.
3. Search for Alumni Karaoke King – One representative per batch will compete with other Karaoke King wannabes. Judging will be based on the scores shown after each song is sung. Winner will win P500.00.
4. On-the-Spot Cheer Dancing Competition – Each batch should have five representatives. All they need to do is to follow the steps of cheer dancers and be more creative to win P500.00.
5. Best Batch Banner – Does your batch still have that banner? Well, bring it out and the winners will be announced in the evening extravaganza. 1st – P3,000.00; 2nd – P2,000.00 and 3rd – 1,000.00.

We look forward to seeing you on December 18. For more details, you may contact Mea A. Dayot, NDDC Alumni Coordinator at 301-0034. Best regards.

In Notre Dame,

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

In a few days, we will implement a new system in posting your entries on the guest book. This is in response to numerous complaints from our readers/members about questionable entries that are offensive and those that are clearly unsolicited advertising.
Our able and ever patient Webbist, Chris Gammon had been doing his best to filter through these messages. He deviced a process wherein your entries will be monitored and he will post only those that he sees are in keeping with our mission statement, first and foremost to connect our Notre Dame Alumni all over the world and to post important announcements for the information of our members and friends of Notre Dame.
When this new process is implemented, there will be a delay in the posting of your message. Chris will do his best to limit the delay to 24 hours. I hope all of you who have benefited from this site will give us your opinion on this new method. If you have a better suggestion, we will appreciate your sharing it with us.
On behalf of the officers, Members of the Board and our alumni members, we would like to acknowledge the monumental task that Chris Gammon had been doing for us since the inception of this website. I think he's the only person who visits the site EVERY DAY since 2000! Such dedication should never go unnoticed. Thanks a zillion Chris.
Our thanks also goes to diligent monitors like Bueno Jun Silva and Elena Tingson Gonzales.

Message for Prima Guipo Hower. Congratulations on TIO DOROY'S Field, your first book!
I salute you, my dear Friend! This book is truly a work of love. I just can't imagine all the work you put into it...I read all night (till 4 AM!) and went back to Lagao of my childhood. This book surely brought back memories, particularly the games we played under the moonlight and the "libre cine." You are a born storyteller in the finest Pilipino tradition. The emotionally charged war stories echoed of similar ones from my parents' past, mostly of the fear and hardships during that dark time of their lives. We cannot fathom the strength and courage they had to keep life and love going in order to survive. You delved into human relationships so expertly that the reader can feel your pain and rejoice in your triumphs -- very authentic. This book tells a poignant story on what it means to be a family, with all its complex human relationships. Thank you for making me a part of your book. I will treasure your friendship all my life. You are one of a kind, my dear Prima. I wish you good luck with your first book and looking forward to many more publications. See you in Japan? Itutuloy.... Love, Tally

Hi Kumpare Tiny,

I'll email you in your email address, to discuss politics! but I just want to let you and everyone else know that we DID NOT ESCAPE THE WRATH OF JEANNE. I knew my luck won't hold up after escaping the previous three hurricanes.

We lost electrical power for four days. We are the lucky ones. There's still 54,000 in the Tampa Bay area without power and some don't even have running water and most sad, no house to go home to.

One thing one can learn from these misfortunes, everything is relative. And one also becomes appreciative of things that we take for granted...air conditioning, email services, etc. It also brings out the best in people. Two of my neighbors checked on us right away. Another offered for us to plug one electrical line so we can hook up our fridge.

Am an incorrigible romantic so I thought the candle light was just great. Besides the moon was full so for entertainment I took out the guitar, something I have not done for 10 years...wholesome entertainments of old supplanted by tv and dvd. Our wooden privacy fence is still down but that's nothing compared to Ate Nena in Orlando. She spent thousands of dollars (not covered by insurance, that's right), to have huge fallen oak trees (some have trunks about 3 or more feet in circumference) cut and hauled away. Keep Florida in your prayers, hurricane season is not over until November (so is the political hurricane...). Cheers, Prima

Prima Hower <primah@juno.com>

Kumare Prima: Nice to know you survived. Swimming lessons back in GenSan must have helped you. How about those alligators? Well, Jeanne is still on the swing. I heard insurance companies are neglecting claims due to the fact their offices and computers got flooded and some of their agents got eaten by gators and crocs. I thought insurance agents are safe from the mouth of these creatures out of professional courtesy (he!he!he!). I still believe Jeb and George are jinxs/jingks. Haven't you noticed those counties
that George won last election are the ones that are badly damaged? Hey, someone up there does not like the Bush brothers. I really like George but when I go to the poll I'll probably flip-flop and vote for Kerry (he!he!he!).
I strongly recommend our next reunion will be in GenSan by December. You'll never know the wrath of nature might strike again in Florida comes June 2005. Mr Apang, yes I still say my prayers and you're even included. Hey, I'm into culianary cooking now but I cook so bad that we have to say our prayers after meal. Last night I prepared chicken bregatine and my dog won't even eat it (he!he!he!).
Thanks to Kentucky fried chicken. The colonel definitely saved our evening. Gotta go. I still have to cook (he!he!he!).

Hi Kumpare Tiny,

Thanks for the prayers...it worked. Ivan missed us...three times is a charm kuno. Hope our luck holds up. Jeanne is coming for a visit soon. There's no getting use to it but let's just say we're better able accepting the downside of living in Paradise. (By the way, your friend Angel wonders...kabalo ka pa daw gali magpray?)
Mark your calendar for June 2005, reunion sa Tampa ha? Regards and keep us posted on the guest book. Cheers, Prima

Kumare Prima, hurricanes and other wrath of nature is a payback for living in paradise like Florida. It's a good thing though there's an early warning for you guys to clear the area before it strikes. Us here in California, earthquake is unpredictable. We have to say our prayers before going to bed hoping everything will be alright when we wake up in the morning. Oh, think about it, as long as Jeb is the governor the hurricanes will keep on comin'. Just like the deficit, as long as brother George is the prez, it will keep on goin'...going up, that is. Take care and stay alive!

Dear Fellow Alumni,

I am sorry for this mass announcement, but my phone is ringing off the hook with friends and relatives calling from as far away as Philippines. We will be unplugging the computers by Sunday in preparation for the hurricane Ivan the Terrible. Saturday we will board up the windows. We've already stocked up on nonperishable goods (Vienna Sausage wow!) and water.
Tampa was lucky enough to dodge two bullets--Charley and Frances. Although there is damage (flooding especially) we fared better than most Floridians. But Ivan is aiming directly at us this time. Although hopeful that it goes farther west this time, we are not taking any chances.
When Charley came to town we were in Belize, Central America for our son Lee's wedding. When Frances came, we were in Allentown, Pa. for a Labor Day Family reunion with Al's family. We would have bought a ticket to visit the kids in Rhode Island to avoid Ivan, but alas alack, Al is working for some pharmaceutical company now and he does not have the vacation time left. So pray for us...will email individually again after the storm. Keep safe, Prima

A young age death is a tragedy. An old age death is a cycle of life. However, the mystery of life is not for us to solve but it is for us to experience. Life is wonderful and death is peaceful. To the bereaved family of Orly Royeca, my deepest sympathy goes.

Prayer for our Beloved Mrs. Francisca Jose

A Prayer for the Dead

Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend the souls of thy servants, Francisca Jose , and beseech Thee to grant her rest in the place of thy rest, where all thy blessed Saints repose, and where the light of thy countenance shineth forever. And I beseech Thee also to grant that our present lives may be godly, sober, and blameless, that, we too may be made worthy to enter into thy heavenly Kingdom with those we love but see no longer: for Thou art the Resurrection, and the Life, and the Repose of thy departed servants, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Condolences to the bereaved family.

The Mendoza family extends their deepest sympathy to the Dinopol family on the recent demise of Mrs. Priscilla Dinopol. She was a very nice person, my teacher in Biology and actually had an influence in my taking a medical degree course. She made the subject so very interesting and I always get good grades with it. One day my father (who was an M.D.) said, " you, among all my other children, will be destined to become a doctor."
May her soul rest in peace. Mam, till we meet again.
